Abeliophyllum distichum

Common name:  White Forsythia

Deciduous, open, loose shrub, with arching branches. In late winter it produces very fragrant, star-shaped, clusters of white, (sometimes tinged pink), four-petaled flowers, with a yellow eye, on bare purplish stems, before the leaves unfold. Leaves are oval and dark green, sometimes turning purple in the autumn. It does best in the shrub border against a dark background. It is also idea for covering trellis, fences and walls. Benefits from early pruning to maintain a dense habit. Best in a sunny spot (will take light shade) and moist, well-drained soil. Height to 1.5m. Very rare in the wild, and in danger of extinction.
